Why Do You Like Melding the Cozy Mystery with Supernatural/Paranormal?

I have always loved the supernatural and the paranormal. It makes life and

books so much more interesting for me. To consider things walking around that are

more than human is just fun. So that part of deciding to write a cozy mystery urban

fantasy was easy for me, I’d had plenty of practice.

Adding in the cozy mystery part was new for me and honestly, I didn’t set out

to do it exactly and I wouldn’t have been able to even name it, I don’t think, until

after it was with DXVaros. When Daniel and I were discussing what the cover should

look like he called it a cozy mystery and I felt like it just fit.

What I was trying to do when I wrote this series was write something that felt

like it would appeal to a broad range of readers and ages. So, I couldn’t make it scary

or gory or sexy, which I guess means I made it cozy! I thought about the Stephanie

Plum series by Janet Evanovich and how it seemed to have such a broad appeal and I

thought about the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs which seemed to as

well, and I wanted to combine the two into something of my own.

Neither of those series was too much for almost anyone to enjoy and I

thought that’s where I should aim for starting out this new path of writing for myself.

I think I did a pretty good job of it!

So, I wrote an urban fantasy with a cozy mystery feel. I think that the appeal to

me has really become about the developing relationships of the characters and their

lives as they go about solving mysteries and bringing down the bad guys. It’s allowed

me to stretch the story of their personal journeys past a one book urban fantasy.

I have very much enjoyed writing this series and I do hope to continue it,

although I don’t see getting number five out in the next year, partially because of

other things I am currently working on. So hopefully this isn’t the last we’ll see of

Fawn and her Posse solving mysteries in Seattle.

About Lucky Rabbit's Foot

Rabbits!  Lots and lots of rabbits!  And what's up with this weather?

These were only the beginning of Fawn Malero's problems, but they coincided with a vampire wedding-of-the-century coming to town and that made them a top priority.  And as Logan began to take on more duties as pack Alpha, her loyalties were being tested by everyone.  Could she run part of the city and part of the pack?

Then the burglaries started . . . of human homes, threatening exposure!  Being pulled in so many directions, Fawn feared she was failing her father and the supernaturals of Seattle, leaving them open for challengers to their authority.

Will Fawn's ability to enlist the help of other supernaturals be enough?  Or will they finally see that she doesn't have what it takes to keep Seattle safe and its supernaturals hidden?
